Newspaper in lower NY State publishes list of registered gun owners.

The Journal News, which serves Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties published a map where you can see all of the gun owners in Westchester and Rockland counties and promises to add Putnam when that data is complete.

Many gun owners in those counties are up in arms, but the information is public and available to all. What do you think?

------------------------------------------------------

http://www.lohud.com/interactive/article/20121223/NEWS01/121221011/Map-Where-gun-permits-your-neighborhood-

The map indicates the addresses of all pistol permit holders in Westchester and Rockland counties. Each dot represents an individual permit holder licensed to own a handgun — a pistol or revolver. The data does not include owners of long guns — rifles or shotguns — which can be purchased without a permit. Being included in this map does not mean the individual at a specific location owns a weapon, just that they are licensed to do so.

Data for all permit categories, unrestricted carry, premises, business, employment, target and hunting, is included, but permit information is not available on an individual basis.

To create the map, The Journal News submitted Freedom of Information requests for the names and addresses of all pistol permit holders in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam. By state law, the information is public record.

Boehner pins responsibility for avoiding ‘fiscal cliff’ on Obama, Democrats

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/boehner-pins-responsibility-for-avoiding-fiscal-cliff-on-obama-democrats/2012/12/21/5aa6bbb0-4b77-11e2-b709-667035ff9029_story.html

Republicans have an internal struggle and cannot agree amongst themselves which plan should be in place to avoid the fiscal cliff, so Boehner blames... Obama. Of Course.

Boehner cannot get a bill to be accepted by the Republican members of the House of Representatives. A majority of Americans already think the Republicans are too crazy and extreme. This isn't going to help.

"Only 'A Good Guy With A Gun' Can Stop School Shootings" Says NRA Executive VP Wayne LaPierre

http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2012/12/21/167785169/live-blog-nra-news-conference

WRONG! The over 300 million good people who are not NRA members will eventually succeed in getting guns off of our streets and THEY will stop school shootings, not vigilantes with guns.

While more police isnt necessarily a bad idea, a better idea is to get rid of as many guns as possible.

--------------------------------------------
Saying that last week's mass shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., could have been prevented or stopped if there had been armed, trained security personnel on site, officials of the National Rifle Association on Friday called for Congress to appropriate funds to put police officers in every American school.

"The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," said Wayne LaPierre, NRA's executive vice president.

The NRA also said it is launching a "National School Shield" training program to help — at no cost — schools train security personnel and develop security plans.

And, NRA officials blamed the news media for focusing on what they view as the wrong issue — guns — rather than violent video games and the nation's mental health care programs.

Republican Party Too Extreme, Majority Of Americans Say: Poll

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/20/republican-poll_n_2337757.html

For the first time, a majority of Americans now say the Republican Party is too extreme, according to a poll released Thursday by CNN/ORC. Fifty-three percent of people, including 22 percent of Republicans, said the GOP's views and policies have pushed them beyond the mainstream.

Barack Obama - Time Magazine's Person of the Year for 2012!

"But his 5 million-vote margin of victory out of 129 million ballots cast shocked experts in both parties, and it probably would have been higher had so much of New York and New Jersey not stayed home after Hurricane Sandy. He won many of the toughest battlegrounds walking away: Virginia by 4 points, Colorado by 5 and the lily white states of Iowa and New Hampshire by 6. He untied Ohio’s knotty heartland politics, picked the Republican lock on Florida Cubans and won Paul Ryan...’s hometown of Janesville, Wis. (Those last two data points especially caught the President’s interest.) He will take the oath on Jan. 20 as the first Democrat in more than 75 years to get a majority of the popular vote twice. Only five other Presidents have done that in all of U.S. history."

The "Guns for protection against potential out control govt" argument doesnt work for me

If those in the government and military ever decide that the Constitution is irrelevant and that it/they is/are willing to do whatever to the people to have power, each of us owning an AR-15 would not help.

An AR-15 is not going to protect me from a drone, or a howitzer, or a helicopter gunship, or an fight...
er plane/bomber, or nuclear, biological or chemical weapons. An out of control government could decide to use WMD against pockets of resistance. Guns will not help us.

I think we have to look at the fall of the Soviet Union. Even an empire that many in the US considered the epitomy of evil simply gave up power in the face of popular will. And guns had nothing to do with it.

Froomkin: Campaign Coverage in 2012 missed...the radical right-wing, off-the-rails lurch of the Republican Party, both in terms of its agenda and its relationship to the truth

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dan-froomkin/republican-lies-2012-election_b_2258586.html

But according to longtime political observers Thomas Mann and Norman Ornstein, campaign coverage in 2012 was a particularly calamitous failure, almost entirely missing the single biggest story of the race: Namely, the radical right-wing, off-the-rails lurch of the Republican Party, both in terms of its agenda and its relationship to the truth.

Mann and Ornstein are two longtime centrist Washington fixtures who earlier this year dramatically rejected the strictures of false equivalency that bind so much of the capital's media elite and publicly concluded that GOP leaders have become "ideologically extreme; scornful of compromise; unmoved by conventional understanding of facts, evidence and science; and dismissive of the legitimacy of its political opposition."

The 2012 campaign further proved their point, they both said in recent interviews. It also exposed how fabulists and liars can exploit the elite media's fear of being seen as taking sides.

Rep Joe Burton (R-Tx) Chairman of House Energy and Commerce Committee) "Greenhouse Gasses are Good"

http://fora.tv/2012/12/05/Legacy_of_the_Clean_Air_Act_Looking_Back_Moving_Forward

Rep Barton: "carbon dioxide is irrelevant to the Clean Air Act"... "it’s not dangerous at all because it’s “a necessity for life.”... "...greenhouses ...because they create life, so greenhouse gases are good. There’s a reason that you build things called greenhouses, and that’s to help things grow,”

Who is responsible for the divisiveness in American Politics today?

Is it possible that one person is responsible for the genesis of nasty polemicists like Michele Malkin, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter?

Could that same person be the reason we cannot resolve issues like budget disagreements and the fiscal cliff? Are they the reason we have trumped up issues like Monicagate and Benghazi?

Find out the surprising answer during Thursday nights (11/29) special edition of Making Sense with Steve Leser.

HuffPo Article: "CEO Council Demands Cuts To Poor, Elderly While Reaping Billions In Government Contracts, Tax Breaks"

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/25/deficit-reduction-council-fiscal-cliff_n_2185585.html?utm_hp_ref=politics

WASHINGTON -- The corporate CEOs who have made a high-profile foray into deficit negotiations have themselves been substantially responsible for the size of the deficit they now want closed.

The companies represented by executives working with the Campaign To Fix The Debt have received trillions in federal war contracts, subsidies and bailouts, as well as specialized tax breaks and loopholes that virtually eliminate the companies' tax bills.

The CEOs are part of a campaign run by the Peter Peterson-backed Center for a Responsible Federal Budget, which plans to spend at least $30 million pushing for a deficit reduction deal in the lame-duck session and beyond.

The worst nonsense of last week is the continued GOP effort to politicize Benghazi

The worst nonsense (of last week) is the continued Republican effort to politicize Benghazi. Republicans, the enemy are the folks who attacked the Consulate, not President Obama. Maybe its time you started thinking in those terms.

I’ve talked a lot about Romney’s lying during episodes of my show. I talked about the 82 lies Romney told in three debates, the lies about Jeep and many others. Steve Benen from Rachel Maddow’s blog has been cataloguing Mitt Romney’s lies for the last 41 weeks. Presidential Debate Number three two part #Romnesia Contest

How much #Romnesia will we be subjected to in debate number three and how much #Romnesia will it be cumulatively for all four debates? That is the subject of our two part #Romnesia contest.

In part one, the contest is to guess how many seconds will there be between Romney lies.
In the second Presidential debate, Romney told a lie every 79 seconds. In the Vice Presidential debate, Paul Ryan told a lie every 100 seconds. In the first Presidential debate, Romney told a lie every 84 seconds.

I am in at 75 seconds between lies for Romney in the third and final debate. What is your guess?

In part two of my contest for the 3rd debate, Romney and Ryan are up to 82 lies:
1st Presidential debate, Romney told 27 lies
Vice Presidential debate, Ryan told 24 lies
2nd Presidential debate, Romney told 31 lies
The contest is to guess how many lies will the team of Romney and Ryan end this debate season with.

I say they will end up with 115 lies between them, meaning Romney will tell 33 lies in the final debate. What do you think?
